Birdman Review

So Birdman has been big at the award shows and before I saw it, it had a lot of hype around it. Sometimes with films like that I don't always believe they're going to be as good as everyone says. But sometimes the hype is true, and it was with this film. I loved it, the acting from the whole cast was on point, the setting and cinematography was excellent (it won the BAFTA for best cinematography) and the story was really original.

I loved Michael Keaton as the ex-superhero movie star, as IRL Keaton was Batman in his earlier days, so I'm sure he could really relate to this character and what it's like to be seen as a 'non-serious actor' and that's why he just killed it in this role. The juxtaposition between his character Riggan Thomson and Birdman; made the film multi-dimensional, you could really sense the struggle between the two and Riggan's warped mind. I also loved the struggle between Keaton's and Edward Norton's character, the physical depiction of his role of movie star and Mike Shiners (Norton) roles as the Actor. Like I said, the whole cast was really good Emma Stone had some moments in this film that just go to me you know?

I did enjoy this film with all it's splendour and the visual impact of Keaton regressing back into the role of Birdman. It's one of the best films of the year. One of my favourites, but not my absolute. I loved Boyhood! However, this is definitely in my top 5 films and a definite must see. It does not disappoint.

I am working on a post of films to watch before the Oscars (22/02/2015)... Can't you tell I love films haha!!

Anyway, watch Birdman (click for trailer) and follow me on Twitter

Peace.
